This list is totally opinionated, you don't have to agree with me. This list is composed of the male anime characters I liked and enjoyed watching the most (personality, role in the story, appearance etc.). This doesn't mean in any case "the strongest" or the "coolest". I had more difficulties with this top list than with my "Top 10 Female", because after No 6, there were many ties between characters whom I like quite less than the 6 first. But anyway, let's get to it.
10) Rofocale, "Invitation of Cheerful Playing" (Shakugan no Shana Final)
Surprised of this choice? I'm pretty sure many of you are. "This character is just a sub", you may say. "How is he here anyway?" I personally like him a lot. He is a musician, he wears royal clothes, he is mysterious, he is a messenger of a god and talks by using poems, while playing his musical instrument, the lute. That is pretty unique! With his poems, he talks a lot about philosofical stuff and subtlety, which makes him even more intriguing. His purpose is to travel around the world to look for an event/revelation so great, that the whole world should know about it. And when that happens: he sacrifices his own life to summon, Shaher, his godess, as she will transmit the news across the world. Wow! I like that!
9) Kinji Tohyama (Hidan no Aria)
Hysteria Mode! Hysteria Mode! Hysteria Mode! Kinji is all about Hysteria Mode... and anti-tsundere. Hysteria Mode is a kind of trance Kinji gets himself into when he gets excited by a girl, that makes him become much more intelligent, skilled and makes him... a mega-flirting handsome casanova. When he is normal... well, everything is normal about this boy, and he doesn't want to get really involved with anything. But when he gets into his trance: if you're a girl, get ready to get infatuated by the prince; if you're a boy who is in his way, stay the f@ck away or rest in peace. Also, this guy is cool and likeable in both forms, especially as he is one of the very few protagonists who is able to block "tsun power", while making show more of the dere side of a girl.
8) Shino Aburame (Naruto)
I'm not gonna lie by saying I liked this character the moment I saw him. A very silent boy, wearing a big coat which covers his mouth (because it always looks awesome) and who uses... bugs. Yes, bugs. Actually, his own body is filled with a huge amount of insects. They stay in his body and he uses them for battle. Disgusting? But totally awesome. Even though he doesn't appear much in the whole show - *Sigh* - it's been shown that he is far from being weak. I like the fact that he always stays calm and serious at any moment and does not let his feelings come out easily.
7) Sydonay, "Thousand Changes" (Shakugan no Shana)
A member of the Trinity of "Bal Masqué", Sydonay, titled "General", acts as the war leader of his organization. He is a tall, well-built and powerful Crimson Lord, who often smokes, wears sunglasses and uses an unbreakable object that can transform into any weapon and more. As his name suggests, he is able to transform into various creatures (manticore, dragon, hydra, serpent and armored-skeleton). He has a cool personality and is in good terms with everyone, except Dantalion, the mad scientist. He cares a lot about Hecate, stating that he likes her purity. While normally cool and calm, he will rage furiously, attacking whoever is in his surroundings no matter who they are, if something bad and dangerous happens to Hecate, and he will go and rescue her as fast as possible, even when in the middle of a battle. I like him for all of this.
6) Undertaker (Black Butler)
Okay, so here is a very bizarre character. His name is never revealed (at least in the anime), so he is called Undertaker. He is a psychotic funeral director, who is a tiny little bit too obsessed with his job. It is later found out he is actually a retired Shinigami. He is both very creepy and very funny at the same time, from the way he acts or speaks. I like how the show takes advantage of his character as, interestingly enough, everytime he appears, the story starts becoming much darker; something that emphasizes his character a lot and makes him more mysterious and fascinating than ever. He can also be considered a mad scientist, as he takes out the organs of his "customers" during the autopsy, for experiments. With him, I never really know if I should laugh or be scared... and it definitely makes him so much greater.
5) Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha)
Alright, who has seen Inuyasha and disliked Sesshoumaru? I think no one. And if there is, I will be very surprised. Sesshoumaru is, unlike his half-brother Inuyasha, a full fledged demon, and a powerful one at that. He hates Inuyasha, because of his human blood, since Sesshoumaru despises humans. His monotone voice and peculiar actions make him very unpredictable, especially since he is constantly skating the line between good and evil. He is sinister and mysterious, as well as very subtle, mainly from the moment he saves a human child named Rin. He is yet another silent character so, many points for that, too. But he also is very cool, in both looks and action; and strong, as he defeats most of his opponents with ease... and when it becomes a bit difficult, he can still transform into a giant demonic dog to crush, bite and stomp everything. Finally, Sesshoumaru counts as one of the best anti-heroes of all anime, with a great part in the plot. Sesshoumaru has a huge fanbase and I'm most definitely part of it.
4) Deidara (Naruto Shippuden)
Before anything, I will say that this will be one of the very few times I will ever compliment or say that I liked a loud character; because that's exactly what Deidara is. He is loud, arrogant, proud, overestimates himself at times and can become psychotic. However, he is still a bit unique, like all the characters in Akatsuki, the evil organisation he is associated with. First of all, I really like how he looks. I know he looks a bit... strange, but still like it quite a lot. Then is his powers: explosions. You may say: "Explosions again? We are tired of that." However, in Deidara's case, it is different. He creates explosives by making his mouths on his hands chew some clay, and then transforms that chewed clay into grotesque figurines of creatures - mostly of birds and dragons - that explode just by Deidara saying "Katsu!". And yes, I did said <mouths on his hands>. And he calls his technique "Art", which is quite interesting. Finally, he wears a sort of machine on his left eye, that makes it able to counter illusions techniques and he usually finishes his sentences with "un". All the better.
3) Ryuunosuke Akasaka (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo)
Wow, I actually have a male character without super powers on this list. Ryuunosuke may seem like an odd choice, but I found him great. Even though he is cold, harsh, over-realistic and a straight to the point hikikomori (socialy withdrawn person), I still like him a lot. Why? Exactly because of his personality that evolves through the show. Not only does he only appears after 9 episodes while we already know he really exists, but in the beginning, he is very harsh, cold and almost uncaring. However, since Shiina arrived and Rita appeared, he has started to come out of his room more often, be together with the others more and even getting a close bond with Rita, even though he is gynophobic; that's quite a change. On the other side, he is very realistic and mature compared to the others and the arguments he sometimes has with them are done very well, which emphasizes his character more; and I really appreciate that.
2) Kimimaro Kaguya (Naruto)
Already 3 Naruto characters! Jeez, that's a lot. But you will probably never see Naruto in any other Top list, so now's the chance. Just like Deidara, I liked Kimimaro a lot. Reason he is higher? Can you guess? Yep, he is of the silent type. But not only that! Personally, I think that he is cooler than Deidara, with a more interesting personality. He is one of the most powerful underlings of Orochimaru, but also one of his most loyal and faithful ones. Remember when I said that Shino was a bit disgusting? Well, this man is worse. His power is bones. Bones! He can freely control the flux and amount of calcium in his body, making his bones bigger or smaller. He can even create new bones directly inside his body. He uses his bones in battle: like taking out a bone of his arm and using like a sword; or using his spine as a giant mace; or even making his ribs come out of his body to protect himself from incoming melee attacks. With the power of a Cursed Seal placed of him by his master, he can become immensely stronger, while his very own appearance changes: many big bones come out of his back, making it look like of a dinosaur's back. A loyal, strong, skilled, intelligent, cool and silent character with amazing, yet disgusting powers.
1) Khamsin Nbh'w, "Mobilizer of Ceremonial Equipment" (Shakugan no Shana)
Favourite male character until now and probably still here for a long time, Khamsin Nbh'w (Kamushin Nebuhau). I LOVE THIS GUY! He is so amazing! Okay, first things first. This character is one of the most powerful Flame Hazes of all time and he is feared by both Crimson Denizens and other Flame Hazes, who call him "Demolisher". Why? Because this 10-year old looking boy, carries with him a very big mommified iron pole, which he uses to dispel distortions created by the Denizens! and in combat as well! He uses it to magically connect it to rocks and part of the earth, then throws them at enemies. He clearly detaches parts of the earth! He can also transform himself into a giant stone golem, able to absorb most hits and crush mostly anything in its path, while still throwing rocks at enemies! And by who is it done? By a 10-year old looking boy, who is actually more than 3.000 years old! This guy lived more than three millenniums! and he definitely is respected from both me and the other characters of the show, because of his experience and many battles. His scars on his body testify of it. His role in the story is also very important and he has an interesting background too, but no spoilers. Another thing I liked a lot: his connection with Kazumi Yoshida; the relationship between these two was something simple and something deep at the same time. There was a bond that had been created between them, due to some events and I think they both learned things from each other. Finally: he is a silent character. He has everything I could possibly want from a favourite character. Thank you, Khamsin. Thank you.
In connection to the "Top 10 Female Anime Characters", I like Hecate a bit more than Khamsin.
This ends my second article. I hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to comment, if you want to express your opinion on this list or your own favourite male anime characters. Thank you for reading.
